Underwriting risk
The underwriting risk involves the risks of achieving negative results for the actuarial standards which are used in determining the amounts of the premiums and the technical provisions. The most important risk in this context is the development of longevity statistics. Retirement and survivor pensions are payable for life. For this reason, ABP takes the life expectancy of the population of active members, former members and pensioners into account. The life expectancy is based on observations from the past and expected longevity, the so-called long-life trend, based on prognoses from the Central Bureau for Statistics (CBS).
